While people from other parts of the world might find ‘hot’ a weird name for a sports betting brand, Caliente.mx definitely has the popularity to warrant this self-given moniker. Not only are they the official sponsor of more than 15 different sports teams, but they also have the entire Mexican market in a chokehold.

However, we’re not here to discuss reputation. Our job is to assess the quality of Caliente, not solely its pizzaz. In that department, it seems that this might not be an ideal sportsbook. While still a good option, we believe that Caliente is not on par with the best bookies from Brazil or Argentina.

Let’s just get this out of the way - we don’t like what Caliente did with their UI. Keep in mind that a slightly negative observation about a bookie isn’t a death sentence. It’s merely our subjective opinion. Maybe some of you like this sort of take on sportsbook design, but we personally do not.

Why exactly? Well, it’s just that it seems like too much is going on without a particular goal in mind. The sports filtering system is chaotic and the boxes representing different categories are often asymmetrical.

Instead of enlarging the header area in order to insert HD images, Caliente, for some reason, decided to squeeze everything into the right part of the page. The result is a calamitous layout, one that is exacerbated even further due to using just Arial. Who the hell relies on this basic font anymore? It’s not computer class in 2002, wake up Caliente.

Perhaps the only good decision, design-wise, was to use red and white to mark different leagues and markets. Still, the site would look much cleaner if a newer font was applied and if there was a little more space between different sections. As bad as it sounds, it’s a minor problem when you look at the bigger picture.

After the design-related disappointment, we were delighted to find that Caliente’s customer support team is simply stellar. They clearly train their agents well, and they’re always willing to talk to you and conform to your discourse or mood. A+ treatment of customers, without a doubt.

As for the payments section, the only thing that’s visibly missing is PayPal. However, it seems that Mexican bettors don’t use it quite often, so it makes sense that the bookie didn’t approach the company. Other than that, there’s nothing wrong. Almost 20 options to choose from is never a bad thing.

The best way to describe Caliente’s offer is average. We wouldn’t quite say mediocre because they have their occasional flashes of brilliance with great props and bet boosters. However, after those flashes, they quickly regress to the mean and fail to stand out when it comes to all parts of their sportsbook.

Licensing is another strong suit of Caliente’s, as they have been granted official approval to operate. The licensor, in this case, is the Directorate of Games and Draws, which is a section of the Ministry of Interior of the Mexican Republic.

This regulatory body is known for being notoriously strict, but they do a good job when it comes to weeding out fraudulent and unreliable bookies. Caliente also uses SSL encryption, which is always a plus.
